Jatuporn: PM not in attacked car  By: Bangkokpost.com  Published: 7/05/2009 at 03:45 PM  The trashing of the prime minister’s bullet-proof car at the Ministry of the Interior during the Bangkok protests last month was carried out by soldiers wearing red shirts, according to UDD leader Jatuporn Promphan.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s statement he was in the vehicle with Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban when it came under attack by protestors was a lie, Mr Jatuporn said.

Only the driver was in the car at the time, said Mr Jatuporn, a leading member of the anti-government United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD).

He said the government was trying to send out false information. More than half of those who assaulted the car were soldiers who had donned red shirts, he said. Red shirts are worn by UDD supporters.

Mr Jatuporn, who is an opposition Puea Thai party MP, said pictures supporting his allegations would be revealed during the UDD rally on Sunday.

He said accused some members of the police force of serving the needs of politicians.

Mr Jatuporn cited the lack of progress in bringing charges against leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy over the occupation of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports last year

Nipon: PM, Suthep were in attacked car  By: BangkokPost.com  Published: 8/05/2009 at 12:21 PM  Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva was inside his car with Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban when it was attacked by anti-government protesters at the Interior Ministry during Songkran, PM's Office secretary-general Nipon Prompan said on Friday.

Mr Nipon said the claim on Thursday by opposition Puea Thai MP Jatuporn Promphan, a core member of the United Front for Demopcracy against Dictatorship, that Mr Abhisit had lied and that the prime minister and Mr Suthep were not inside the vehicle when it was attacked on April 12 was unfounded.

Mr Nipon said about a thousand people, including Thai and foreign journalists, witnessed the incident and they could testify to the fact the prime minister and his deputy were inside the car during the attack.

Democrat party spokesman Thepthai Senpong said Mr Jatuporn was trying to distort the facts in an attempt to draw in more red-shirt supporters to attend the UDD rally on Sunday at Pai Kaew temple in Don Mueang area.

He said the party will gather evidence and the footage of this incident to show the people who was trying to mislead them.

Army spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd on Friday also rejected Mr Jatuporn's allegation that many of the attackers were soldiers hired by government supporters to wear red shirts and pound  on the prime minister's car.

He soldiers on duty to maintain order around the Interior Ministry, but they were wearing military camouflage fatigues, he said.

They were positioned in peripheral areas of the ministry grounds and were not near the scene of the attack.
