Human Help Network distributes good quality facemasks to the public in Pattaya

In recent weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for face masks caused an acute shortage in the market and many people could not even buy one at the pharmacy.

If one could buy one, it was at a very high price. Many people turned to making their own cloth one, which somehow became quite popular because you could wash them and reuse them.

Seeing the desperate need for face masks in Pattaya, Enrico Egli and his family donated funds to the Human Help Network Foundation (Thailand) with which the staff and children worked together to sew good quality muslin cloth face masks for themselves and for distribution to the public who needed one. On Wednesday April 15, Pirun Noyimjai, manager of children’s center and his staff drove along Pattaya Beach Road distributing the good quality face masks to the public who were gratified to receive one.

Policemen also need face masks to protect themselves from the deadly coronavirus. A security guard shows off his prized face mask. HHN staff gives a tourist a new face mask. People from all walks of life are grateful when given a face mask to protect themselves.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues with only a rare glimpse of the end in sight, the caring of Thai people for their fellow citizens grows stronger and stronger.

On April 14, Passakorn Yoosomboon, Asst. Sec to Pattaya’s Mayor, accompanied by volunteers of Zone 1, the Thepprasit community, Laem Rachavej community, Ngamsuwan family, Ruengnok family and friends, distributed 500 sets of dried food, including instant noodles, canned fish and snacks to members of the public. The food distribution points were set up on Thepprasit Road opposite the night market which saw hundreds of people who have been hit hard by unemployment caused by the COVID-19 epidemic come by to pick up their food packages.

The group plans to make their next food distribution to the people at Lan Pho market in Naklua. Pattaya City will put out an announcement to the public as to the exact date and time.

3 Ways Pub donates food to Pattaya’s needy every day

During these days of economic hardships cause by the COVID-19 pandemic leaving hundreds of thousands of people without an income, more and more people from communities in Pattaya are rallying together to help them.


On April 16, Nathida Pongkun and Mr. Jorgen, directors of the 3 Ways Party Lounge Pub & Restaurant in Soi Land Department, together with their families and friends, distributed 120 boxes of food and water to the residents in the area. They made a special meal of fried pork with fried egg in their own kitchen.

Nathida said that they will distribute food every day at 4 p.m. for as long as there is a need.

Nathida and Jorgen together with their staff feel a sense of contentment to be able to help the unfortunate.

Rompho market owner in Jomtien gives over 500,000 baht to needy during COVID19 crisis

The Rompho Market Owner and his family gave over 500,000 baht (15,000 USD) to needy people in Pattaya, Thailand this morning in response to the growing problem of people unemployed and struggling during the current COVID-19 Coronavirus crisis which has put the vast majority of the city out of work.

This morning at Rompho Market on Jomtien Second Road, Mr. Somsak Srikram the market manager and his family gave 200 baht cash along with food and drinks to each person who attended the charity event, a number which was in the thousands. Many lined up hours in advance.

Mr. Somsak told The Pattaya News that many people are suffering from the COVID-19 Coronavirus crisis. He had seen the growing lines and desperation in the area and wanted to do his part, along with his family, to assist the Pattaya and Jomtien community.

The event had multiple volunteers who helped space the participants two meters apart and ensuring proper social distancing. Temperatures were taken and hand sanitizer was given out. Mask wearing was mandatory during the charity event.

The event had been advertised on social media prior for several days prior, along with information on how to socially distance regardless of the substantial number of participants.

Pattaya is currently under closure restrictions which limit the people who can enter the city, especially if they are non residents, to help control the spread of Covid-19. The city in normal times is one of the top tourist destinations in the world and is known worldwide for its nightlife and entertainment as well as numerous tourist attractions. It is estimated that 80 percent of the cities revenue comes from tourism.

Due to the current crisis the vast majority of the cities population is out of work and all non essential business, including the roughly estimated 3000 bars, gogos, karaoke lounges and Nightclubs, remain closed.

The Chonburi Governor has told the public he is “in pain” over the suffering of the local population and has pledged to reopen business as soon as possible while ensuring public health is respected and that the situation has improved with the Covid19 Coronavirus.

Chonburi has had no cases of Covid-19 for three days now as of press time.

Homeless numbers increasing at Pattaya temples as local residents call for more government help

Pattaya –

Pattaya residents who live near the Chai Mongkhon temple have reached out to the local media and Chonburi Government for help with what they describe as a steadily increasing homeless population at local Buddhist temples that they believe is driven directly by the current Covid19 Coronavirus that has put the majority of Pattaya City out of work.

Local residents who contacted The Pattaya News have urged Pattaya City officials to solve and help the growing numbers of homeless specifically at the Chai Mongkhon Temple in South Pattaya, stating the amount of growing homeless is primarily due to the COVID19 crisis.

The Pattaya News has also visited several other temples in the local area and discovered the situation is similar at most temples, with dozens of homeless found sleeping and resting on temple grounds.

Some of the homeless appear to have health issues and injuries, according to the residents and pictures taken by The Pattaya News.

The concerned locals said Pattaya officials should do something for these problems at the temples and find further support for the growing homeless community in the area.

The Pattaya News has recently covered the amount of steadily growing homeless and spoken with the Chonburi Social Welfare department, who has sent officials to speak with the homeless and conduct health checks and states they are in the process of developing a plan to assist those found homeless by the Covid19 Coronavirus. The plan is being developed in conjunction with the Chonburi Government, the Social Welfare department stated.

Grand Bella hotel continues as field hospital in Pattaya, proactively testing for Covid-19

Pattaya (NNT) – Social distancing measures and the isolation of persons at-risk are crucial in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Field hospitals are an important facility to aid quarantine and maintain isolation. Grand Bella Hotel in Pattaya is now among several hotels in the country converted into field hospitals for COVID-19 patients. The hotel also serves as a COVID-19 test center for people in Pattaya city.

Health workers have been actively working at Grand Bella Hotel Pattaya in Chonburi to locate persons at-risk of COVID-19 infection, swabbing their throats and nose to collect specimens for lab testing. The center at Grand Bella Hotel can collect specimens from up to 300 persons a day without undue crowding, while the seats are placed 1-meter apart to maintain physical distancing.

This morning, some 100 people visited the center to receive risk assessment screenings and undergo tests. All persons are required to show their national ID or passport to the staff.

 

The goal is several hundred proactive tests a day on at risk patients and so far over 900 people have been tested for Covid-19 in the past week who are asymptomatic. Only one test was positive and that individual was found to be a close personal contact of a previous confirmed case.

High risk groups are those who are still exposed to many people, such as Immigration, taxi drivers, convienence store workers, condo security guards, charity workers and more. The Grand Bella is aiming to complete 2000 tests on high risk groups in the Pattaya area to get an idea on if there is an issue with widespread infections in Chonburi.

Pattaya is currently under a closure restriction allowing only local residents and those with essential needs to enter the city. This is to assist in the testing of high risk groups. The test is completely free, including for foreigners, but one must be considered high risk. For a foreigner, this generally means recent travel or residing in a condo where there was a positive case of Covid-19. The test and results take only about 45 minutes as the Grand Bella is using a new test called the lamp test.

In addition to the test center, Grand Bella Hotel has also been converted into a field hospital and quarantine center for those at high risk who have not yet received their test results. This arrangement helps reduce crowding at hospitals, and better prevents the transmission of this disease.

The Nightwish Group came together to help the many people affected by the COVID-19 Coronavirus crisis in Pattaya this afternoon, providing hundreds of meals for those who needed them.

The Nightwish group, the largest group of bars in Pattaya, met at Nature Bar at 1PM this afternoon to provide food for hundreds. At one point the line for food stretched nearly to the end of the street.

 

The Nightwish Group ensured that social distancing was followed and had several police officers assisting with the line as well.

All patrons were given temperature checks and hand sanitizer before receiving their freshly cooked meals from staff members wearing masks and using plastic gloves. Bottled water was also given out to all patrons.

A representative of the Nightwish group, Saifon, who also owns the Thai kitchen that made hundreds of meals for the event located on Soi 6/1 behind Nature Bar, told the press that the Night Wish Group would continue to hold this event at least through the 26th and possibly longer depending on demand and donations. The team currently is set to prepare 800 meals a day.

The charity action of the Nightwish group comes on the month anniversary of the closing of all nightlife in Pattaya, putting an estimated eighty percent of the city out of work according to Pattaya City Hall and closing the vast majority of businesses in the city. As the Covid19 Coronavirus situation has stretched on the Night Wish Group has come together to help those affected.

Pattaya Police arrest thirteen foreigners found drinking and having a pool party at hotel resort

Pattaya-

Pattaya Police reported via their social media channels tonight that this afternoon they arrested thirteen Foreigners as well as a number of Thai Nationals having what was stated as a private pool party at the Momento Beach resort in Pattaya.

The police were acting on a tip when they raided the resort, known for its pool parties during regular times, and found the foreigners drinking, socializing and gathering against the current terms of the Emergency Decree meant to stop the spread of Covid-19 in Thailand.

 

Additionally, pools and pool areas have been ordered to be closed by the Chonburi Governor until further notice, which was an additional violation.

Socializing over alcohol (of which there is currently a sales ban) is against the conditions of the emergency decree, notes The Pattaya News, even in small groups according to the Pattaya Police.

Some hotels may remain open if they have current guests, however, according to Police, the majority of those arrested were not guests at the hotel and appeared to be just drinking and socializing which, according to Pattaya Police, could help spread the Covid-19 Coronavirus.

Details were limited and Pattaya Police did not release names however did state that the people arrested would face significant legal penalities and anyone who wishes to violate the Emergency Decree by drinking, socializing and partying in gatherings would share their fate.

Penalities for violation of the emergency decree to stop the spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus range from up to two years in jail to fines of up to 100,000 baht.

The police also mentioned the management/owners of the resort being held legally liable as well.

Police in Chon Buri have reported the arrest of yet another 15 curfew breakers for drinking, gambling and playing snooker during the during the hours of the national curfew. The incident happened on April 15 in Baan Suan. Officers told reporters that they arrested 13 men and 2 women at a car wash on just after midnight. They were discovered drinking alcohol, gambling and playing snooker. The raid came after a call to police from a concerned citizen earlier in the evening.

They face charges of illegal gambling, gatherings of people, and breaking curfew. Under the current Emergency Decree in effect to help stop the spread of the Covid-19, gatherings of any number are deemed illegal, as is socialising while drinking alcohol. Penalties include up to 2 years in jail and/or fines up to 100,000 baht.

 

Snooker halls, pool halls, bowling, darts, venues etc have all been banned as they do not encourage social distancing.

Yesterday 13 foreigners were among those arrested at a Pattaya pool party.

Police told The Pattaya News that the violators will receive harsh penalties to discourage anyone else from violating the curfew and possibly spreading the virus. During the curfew period citizens are asked to stay at home and not attend parties or gatherings. Exceptions are made for law enforcement, delivery drivers and medical staff.

Pattaya-

Today is April 19 in Pattaya, traditionally known as Wan Lai in the area and is in normal years the culmination of a week long ever escalating and growing celebration to commemorate the Thai New Year, known as Songkran.

In regular years today brings out estimates of hundreds of thousands in one of the world’s truly unique festivals. The final day usually features dozens of concerts, parties, events, water throwing, special vendors, shows, celebrating, drinking, family gatherings and an overall feeling of positivity and energy for those who participate. It’s so big that it is impossible to travel in the city and taxis stop running as the streets fill with revelers celebrating in the back of pickup trucks and vehicles for miles. Even most of those who dislike the Songkran festival (and there are plenty, including those who leave the country for it) generally agree the final day is one wild party and can be a lot of fun.

 

Songkran Day in Pattaya is, even more than New Year’s Eve in December, the biggest party of the year.

Until now.

Due to the Covid19 Coronavirus situation in Thailand all mass gatherings have been cancelled, especially one as massive as Songkran Day in Pattaya. An estimated eighty percent of businesses remain closed and most of the city is out of work. Times are hard and charity lines stretch for up to several Kilometers at some locations. Alcohol sales are banned and socializing over drinks is prohibited. Beaches are closed along with every possible place people could gather and socialize.

However, many have come together in this difficult time and shown true community support, helping those less fortunate. Dozens of businesses across Pattaya, too many to cover in individual articles for every one, have helped the tens of thousands out of work, many of who live day by day and were in support fields of the entertainment industry, such as maids, cooks, food vendors, DJ’s, service staff, etc. This shows that even in tough times Pattaya is able to come together and support those who need it.

The Thai Government has stated that they still plan to have a Songkran celebration later in the year and promised the Thai people they would still get their festival this year, although it will likely be dramatically different and depends on the improvement of the situation. It is unlikely even if there is a postponed Songkran in the late summer or fall that the usual millions of tourists will be able to arrive for it.

For now, the city is quiet, deeply unusual for a city known around the world for it’s tourism, entertainment and nightlife. However, seeing the amount of people helping to support the community gives many hope that Pattaya will overcome this challenge, like many before. It is also worth noting that many lives have been saved this year without the festival, as hundreds die yearly in the “seven deadly days of Songkran” driven primarily by drunken road accidents.

Of the 87 cases, 67 have recovered fully from the virus. There were two previous deaths, both foreign Nationals. Three more patients, all in Banglamung (The Pattaya area) were recovered and released yesterday. Eighteen patients remain in hospitals in Chonburi.

Of note, Pattaya and Banglamung has had no cases since the report of April 19, which were confirmed close previous contacts of a prior case who was believed to have picked up the virus in Phuket. This makes it roughly a week with no new cases in the Pattaya area.

Two cases, of close related contacts, have been found in Chonburi overall during the last seven days, both in Phan Thong, the Northernmost part of Chonburi closest to Bangkok.

26 people are under investigation for possible symptoms of the Covid19 Coronavirus in Chonburi currently.
